How it works

Three questions to set up. Then just play.

Practiz takes a minute to set up. Every round after that is built around your level, the topics you like and the words you're about to forget.

  1. Question 1 of set-up: What are you practising? English is picked.

    1What are you practising?

English, for now. More languages are on their way.

  2. Question 2: Where are you at? Intermediate, B1, is picked.

    2Where are you at?

Pick A1 to B2. Nobody's grading you, and you can change it later.

  3. Question 3: What do you like talking about? Food & Restaurants and Travel & Transport are picked.

3What do you like talking about?

Pick a few topics, or skip it and mix everything.

Pick

Choose a theme, or shuffle it all.

Every round starts with one choice. Play one of the fifteen themes, or a mix of the words that are due.

  • A mix pulls the words that are due from every theme you've played.
  • A theme sticks to its own words, at your level.
  • Quick, Standard or Long: 5, 10 or 20 questions.
The practice picker: Shuffle it all with 12 words waiting, and the fifteen theme tiles.

Answer

One question at a time.

Tap or type, depending on the question. Some come with a hint. Leave whenever you like and your answers are saved.

  • Tapped: pick the word, match-up, word shuffle, name that word, fill the gap.
  • Typed: translate it, spot the slip, make a sentence.
Spot the slip: We arrived to the hotel very late, corrected to arrived at, marked Spot on.

Check

Marked the moment you answer.

No waiting for a teacher. And when it's not quite right, you see the right answer and why.

  • Set answers are marked instantly.
  • Written answers are checked by AI, which accepts natural ways of saying the same thing.
  • A line of feedback tells you what to change, not just that it's wrong.
A translation marked not quite: the right answer, and a line explaining that English questions need does.

Levels

The harder kinds wait until you're ready.

Your level decides which kinds of question you meet. Beginners pick and match; writing your own sentences starts at B1.

Remember

Then the words come back.

Every word you meet is saved to your words. Due ones lead your next mixed round. Get one right and it waits longer; slip up and it comes back sooner.

  • Strength: Brand new, Wobbly, Getting there, Solid, Locked in.
  • Search and filter your words by due, new or scheduled.
Sofía's words: 214 collected, 12 due, and cards for itinerary, connection, fare, delayed, reservation and luggage.

Tune it

Practise the way you like.

Your practice style sets the mix. Slide from mostly tapping to mostly writing, pick your usual round length, and change either whenever you like.

  • Five steps, from about 20% writing to about 80%.
  • Light or dark, six accent colours and a character avatar.
Learning settings: the practice style slider set to Balanced, and the default round length, Standard, 10 questions.

All questions
What happens in a session?

A session is one round of 5, 10 or 20 questions. You pick a theme, or a mix of the words that are due from every theme, and answer one question at a time. Each answer is marked straight away, and at the end you see your score, your best run and every answer to look back on.

What kinds of question are there?

Eight. Five you answer by tapping: Pick the word, Match-up, Word shuffle, Name that word and Fill the gap. Three you type: Translate it, Spot the slip and Make a sentence. At A1 you get picking and matching; the others join in at A2 and B1.

Can I choose between tapping and typing?

Yes. Your practice style in Settings goes from mostly tapping to mostly writing, in five steps from about 20% writing to about 80%. It applies from your next round, and you can change it whenever you like.

How are my answers marked?

Questions with a set answer, like picking a word or fixing a mistake, are marked the moment you answer. Translations and your own sentences are checked by AI, which accepts natural ways of saying the same thing and tells you in a line what to change when it's not quite right.

Are the questions written by AI? Can they be wrong?

Yes, each round's questions are written by AI for your level and topics. Every question is checked before you see it, and one that fails the check twice is dropped, so a round can be a little shorter than you picked. Mistakes can still slip through. If you spot one, email us and we'll look into it.

How does Practiz decide which words come back?

Every word you meet is saved to your words, and each one is due again after a while: sooner if you got it wrong, later if you got it right. A mixed round starts with the words that are due, so the ones you're about to forget get another go.
